It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Lewis Ledbetter, age 78, who died peacefully in Cleburne, Texas, on June 24, 2025, after a long battle with diabetes and its many related complications.
Charles was born in Dallas, Texas in 1947 to Charles C. and Ruby Ledbetter. He married Gayle Appleby Ledbetter in 1968. He was preceded in death by wife Gayle, his parents, sister Sandra McCreery, and nephew Tony McCreery. Charles is survived by son Mark Ledbetter and wife Lynn, daughter Amy Ledbetter Parham and grandchildren Alison Ledbetter and husband Tony Morris, Clay Parham, Meridian Parham and fiancée Preston Perkins and nephew Chris McCreery and wife Mary along with their children Davan and Thaddeus.
Charles worked as a family therapist in Cleburne. He was a graduate of South Oak Cliff High School, Dallas Baptist University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and UT-Arlington. He was known for his love of political and theological conversation, coffee and playing 42 with friends. He never recovered from his loss of Gayle, wife of 49 years, and remembered her to the end.
A private service will be held for close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Habitat for Humanity Texas.
Though his body finally grew tired, Charles's desire to live never wavered. The effects of his life on ours will remain with us always.
