Charles Julian Ledet Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 12, 2025, at the age of 81 in Mandeville, Louisiana. Born on March 2, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Charles lived a life dedicated to service and community.
A proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps, he enlisted in 1962 and retired as an E5, exhibiting the valor and dedication that defined his military service. He continued his commitment to serving others by becoming a New Orleans Fireman, a role that brought him immense pride and fulfillment as he dedicated himself to protecting and supporting his community.
Charles is survived by his loving spouse of 62 years, Joy Savois Ledet, who stood by him through thick and thin, creating a strong foundation filled with love and resilience. Together they shared laughter, joy, and all the moments that make life truly special.
He was a proud father to Charles J. Ledet Jr. (Essie), Monique Ledet, and Patrice Ledet Church (Jason), each of whom carries forward his legacy of kindness and strength. As a grandfather, Charles adored spending time with his grandchildren: Charles J. Ledet III (Brittany), Kristyle Ledet, Austin J. Ledet (Megan), Caitlyn L. Ledet, and Colin J. Mayberry. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Brianna, Alexis, Cayce, Aiden, Jordan, and Maddison, as well as great-great-grandchildren Emma Grace, Jase, and Luke. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and he cherished the moments spent together. He is remembered fondly by his sister, Genieve (Ginny) Camus
Charles was also a devoted member of several local organizations, including the American Legion, the Fun and Faith Club, and the Mandeville Senior Club, where he formed lasting friendships and strengthened ties within his community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Julian Wallace Ledet and Marie Estelle (Esther) Guidry Ledet, as well as his siblings Julian Wallace Ledet, Lester Ledet, Wilson Ledet, Walter Ledet, Wallace Ledet, Wiley Ledet, and Lena Mae Woods, as well as Bessie Smith.
