Charles Romaine Obituary

Charles Henry Romaine 1939- 2025 Charles Henry Romaine, 85, of Laramie, died on July 10, 2025. Charlie was born to David Romaine and Mildred Trunde in Kremmling, Colorado, on July 27, 1939.

Charlie attended school in Leadville, Colorado, where he found a love for basketball. In high school, his basketball team won the 1956 Colorado State Championships. The boys' basketball team would later be inducted into the Leadville Lake County Sports Hall of Fame.

After graduating from high school, Charlie joined the United States Navy on July 28, 1960. He served his country as an Aviation Machinist Mate-Reciprocal for four years. After his military service, Charlie had an extensive career with the Union Pacific Railroad. He attended engineer schooling in Salt Lake City, Utah, and then worked as a Switchman, Brakeman, and Locomotive Engineer. His work with the railroad took him to Denver, Colorado; Green River, Wyoming; and Laramie, Wyoming. Charlie retired from the railroad in July of 2001.

Charlie was elected Sheriff in the town of Superior, Wyoming, from 1970 to 1972.

In retirement, he was involved in many organizations, including the Laramie Black Powder Brigade and the Sierra Madre Raiders, and he served as president of the Wyoming State Muzzleloaders Association.

Charlie had two marriages. He was married to Victoria Lee Huebsch from 1965 to 1970 and to Phyllis Lyne Graham from 1973 to 1991.

He is preceded in death by his father, David Henry Romaine; mother, Mildred Barbara Trunde; and his sister, Barbara.

Charlie is survived by his brother, Russell (Antoinett Yurko); son, Theodore James Romaine (Dawn) of Vancouver, Washington; son, Timothy Gabelson (Mande) of Grand Junction, Colorado; and grandchildren, Natasha, Rebekah, Nathaniel, Marcus, and Ava.

Charlie will be remembered for his booming, unforgettable laugh that could fill a room and his warm, easygoing nature that drew people to him. Over the years, he formed deep friendships across the many places he lived and worked-friendships he cherished deeply. His stories, sense of humor, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charles's name to Hospice of Laramie.
