Charlotte Ann (Cain) Briggs, age 94, was called home to our Lord on Sunday, June 8, 2025 and Heaven gained a beautiful angel. Charlotte was born on September 11, 1930, in Fairfield, Kentucky at the outset of the Great Depression. The oldest of three, she soon learned that hard work and sacrifice would be necessary to endure the times. As a girl, she would pick wild greens from an open field while her brothers caught fish in a nearby stream or pond so they could help put food on the family table. Charlotte's childhood experience made her resilient, humble and grateful for all of life's blessings. After two years at Georgetown College, Charlotte married the love of her life, Marvin Briggs, on Valentine's Day in 1954, and stayed by his side for 35 years until he finally lost a three-year fight with colon cancer. They started their family together in Louisville, Kentucky before moving to Columbus, Ohio, where she tended a pretty flower garden for many years on the way to becoming the matriarch of her neighborhood. She kept herself informed with everything going on in the world by reading the daily newspaper from cover to cover and could tell you where every road closure or weather event was happening before it even happened. Always strong in Faith, Charlotte was a longtime member of Worthington Presbyterian Church where she volunteered with the Sacristy Guild. In her career, Charlotte was a devoted and skilled homemaker. Indeed, no one could fold a fitted bedsheet or peel a ripe peach with as much care or precision. She maintained an immaculately clean home, cleaner children, and her baked beans, deviled eggs and buttermilk pie were the stuff of legend. She liked to say that food tastes better when eaten with good company, but everyone knew her fried chicken was sensational even when eaten alone. Charlotte's greatest source of pride was her family – her 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren each carry her influence as she made darn sure they all inherited the very best qualities and characteristics she possessed – honesty, integrity, compassion and fortitude. She had a disarming personality and the ability to immediately connect and bond with people of all ages and from all walks of life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth and kindness to all who knew her. Charlotte was preceded in death by her dear mother Evelyne (West) Cain; husband Marvin Briggs; and younger brothers Joe (Jeannie) Cain and Charles (Betty Jo) Cain. She is survived by her children Mona Briggs, Lyn (Walter, deceased) Lage, Amy (Jeff) DeBord, Becki (Aaron) Miller and Todd Briggs; grandchildren Lea Ann (Josh) Taylor, Kimberly Andriot, Bennett Merrill, Tucker and Max DeBord, Sam, Tess and Jake Miller; great-grandchildren Lila and Austin Wagenseller; bonus grandchildren Dennis (Amy) Lage, Leah (Brian) Royse; and bonus great-grandchildren Rolen and Addison Royse, Thomas, Kaylee, Hadley and Harper Lage. The family invites you to join them for visitation at Rutherford-Corbin funeral home in Worthington, Ohio on Saturday, June 14 from Noon-4pm. A graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Bloomfield, Kentucky on Tuesday, June 17 at 3pm.
