Niantic - Christian Gerard McDonough, 31, of Niantic, CT passed away on Friday July 11, 2025 at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. Born in New London, CT, Christian was the son of Scott McDonough of Uncasville, CT and Jill McDonough of Niantic, CT. Christian was baptized into Catholicism at Our Lady of the Lakes and received the other Sacraments of Initiation while a student at Saint Patrick's Cathedral School, where he graduated in 2008. Additionally, Christian served as an altar boy at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick.

As a boy Christian enjoyed playing youth sports for both Saint Patrick's and the Town of Montville Recreation Department. He participated in basketball, soccer, bowling and baseball. Christian just missed bowling a 200 game, knocking down 189 pins as a fourth grader, but basketball and soccer were his favorites. Christian followed the Celtics, Buccaneers, Red Sox and UConn Huskies, idolized Paul Pierce and Nomar Garciaparra, and attended numerous games as a teenager and young man.

After graduating from Norwich Free Academy in 2012, Christian briefly attended Three Rivers Community College. He was employed by United Parcel Service, and in spring 2020 bitten by entrepreneurial spirit he created, owned and operated his own landscaping business, which he truly loved. Of late Christian was employed by Race Rock Garden Company of Fishers Island, NY. For over ten years Christian struggled with addiction, through which he remained positive about his future.

May God rest Christian's soul.

Christian is survived by his parents Scott and Jill; godparents Mark McDonough and Angela Apicelli; grandparents Jeffrey and Mary Jane Apicelli; and uncles, aunts and numerous cousins. Christian was predeceased by grandparents William and Linda McDonough.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Woyasz & Son Funeral Service, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, at The Cathedral of Saint Patrick, 213 Broadway, Norwich. There will be no procession from the funeral home to the Cathedral.
