Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother
Claire Curtin Gilday, a longtime resident of Westfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at The Center for Hope Hospice, in Scotch Plains.
Claire was born in Chicago in October 1927 to Daniel and Blanche Curtin. She was raised, along with three brothers, on the South side of Chicago in a close-knit Irish family.
Claire married the love of her life, Raymond Gilday, on September 11, 1948. The couple relocated to NJ and eventually settled in Westfield, where they resided for 67 years and raised their five children.
Claire had a long career as a medical assistant in Westfield. She was an integral part of three busy medical practices and attended to countless patients over the years. Those in need of assistance knew that they could count on Claire for a quick response, compassionate care, and a sympathetic ear.
Claire was preceded in death by her beloved husband Raymond, in 2013, her daughter Gail, in 1996, and her son Daniel, in 2019.
She is survived by son James and his husband Willard White, of Hoboken; daughter Patricia and her husband James DiProspero, of Fanwood; son Thom and his wife Colleen, of Glastonbury, CT; and son-in-law Peter Bourke of East Greenwich, RI.
Claire was much loved by and will be missed by her 8 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter: Steven and Amy Bourke (Larry Surget), Carolyn (Drew Albright) and Nicolas DiProspero; triplets Meagan, Bryan and Kyle (Lauren Ianolo) Gilday, Connor Gilday and her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Albright.
Claire lived life to the fullest. She will be remembered for her friendly, engaging disposition, her prodigious letter and note-writing, her sense of humor, steadfast love for family and devotion to her Catholic faith.
A private service for Claire is planned.
