She was born on July 8, 1936, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Elmer King and Meta Voshage Fiehler. At the age of two, she was lovingly raised by Henry and Laura Voshage.

Clara was an active member of the church, The Ladies Aide, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and taught Sunday school.
