Clarence C. Mahon, a devoted husband, father, and family man, passed away on June 14, 2025, at 91. Born on July 12, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, he was a strong and patriotic American who proudly served his country by enlisting in the US Army twice. After his military service, he worked as a switchman with Norfolk and Southern Railway. He married his beloved wife, Mary Waite, on February 2, 1960, at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and they shared 65 wonderful years together. Clarence was a fitness enthusiast who loved working out at the gym and was known for his charismatic personality and flirtatious nature, but his true love and devotion were always reserved for his wife, Mary.
As a sports fan, he cheered on the Detroit Tigers baseball and Notre Dame football team, and he also enjoyed attending Eastern Michigan University football and basketball games with his best friend, Chuck. Clarence was a dedicated member of his church, where he sang with powerful enthusiasm and served as an usher for over 40 years. Clarence's life was marked by his love for his family, his faith, and his community. He is preceded by his parents; a grandson: Brandon; and three siblings: William, Zane and Michael.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife, Mary; children Lisa (Dennis) Staten, Patrick (Margaret) Mahon, and Heather Mahon; grandchildren Eric, Jason, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, Alec, and Kailah; and great-grandchildren Alyssa, Eston, Blake, Addison, Rylee, Ren, and Colton. If you knew him, you loved him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Friends may gather Thursday June 19, 2025, from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, with a Rosary service at 6:00pm, at Merkle Funeral Service, Romulus (formerly Crane Funeral Home) 36885 Goddard Road, Romulus, Michigan 48174 (734) 941-9200.
