Cody Allen Obituary

Cody Glen Allen, age 39, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Fairbanks, Alaska, on May 8th, 2025.
Cody was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. His passing has left a hole in our hearts, but our memories of him are filled with laughter. He leaves behind the love of his life, his beautiful wife of fifteen years, Chloe (Howe) Allen, and their two incredible children, Atigun and Arleigh.
Together, Cody and Chloe embraced all that Alaska had to offer, filling their lives with year-round adventures, bow hunting, fishing, game nights, camping trips, and frequent dance parties in the garage. Cody never missed a chance to toss hot water into the sky at -40°F or to light fireworks in the frigid cold on New Year's Eve with friends. Cody heard one time that "Alaska is not where people hide, it's where people come to find themselves and they realize they should have been here all along..." This always resonated with him. At their house in the hills of Fairbanks, Cody loved creating gourmet meals and teaching his family the finer points of meat cuts, barbecue, smoking salmon, gardening, and canning pickles and jam, leaving a trail of delicious treats in his wake.
To say that Cody was an amazing, dedicated father would be an understatement. Before starting a family, he was intentional about building a life that would allow him to be fully present and deeply involved in his children's lives. From teaching them love and compassion, hard work, cooking or gardening skills, or hunting and survival skills, he loved them endlessly. We know that his love and protection will continue to follow Atigun and Arleigh always.
Cody was born on October 28, 1985, in Bremerton, Washington. He grew up surrounded by mountains, lakes, coastline, fishing, wakeboarding, crabbing, and boating. His childhood was filled with family outings, time spent with his parents, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The Allen family shares a passion for soccer, and many hours were spent on soccer pitches. Later school years consisted of trips to La Push beach, camping with friends, jumping off bridges, and the exhilarating sport of shopping cart jousting.
Cody excelled both academically and athletically at Klahowya Secondary School, graduating in 2004 as a standout soccer player and student. He spent his freshman year at Western Washington University.
In 2005, Cody enlisted in the U.S. Army. After basic training, he was stationed at Fort Bragg, then volunteered to come to Fort Wainwright near Fairbanks, Alaska in 2006. He was immediately deployed to Iraq for his first tour with the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment. 172nd was later reflagged to 1st Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Stryker Brigade Combat Team shortly after his return to Fairbanks.
In June 2007, between deployments, while still stationed at Fort Wainwright, Cody met Chloe at the American Cancer Society's Alaska Relay For Life. She dispelled his opinion that Alaskan women were "Tundra Wookies," and after a whirlwind romance, they were engaged that fall. They married in the spring of 2010 upon his return from a second tour to Iraq.
Cody proudly served from 2005 to 2010, rising to the rank of Sergeant (E-5). While at Fort Wainwright, Cody was selected from his peers as a reconnaissance scout and squad leader.
While at Fort Wainwright he served with: Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion 21st Infantry Regiment, Recon Scout Platoon & Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion 21st Infantry Regiment,1st Platoon.
He was awarded numerous commendations, including:
Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge
Along with: Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (2 Stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award).
More important to him than these honors were the bonds of brotherhood with those in the 3-21 Infantry Regiment, the Gimlets, "Bore Brother Bore". Though the military families may be scattered across the country, their bonds are enduring and everlasting. Why is the sky blue? 'Cause God loves the Infantry!
Cody was honorably discharged in 2010. Using his GI Bill, he attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Cody graduated in May 2014 with a degree in Business Management: Accounting. He spent time working at CPA firms and with Tanana Chiefs Conference.
Though an accountant and auditor by profession, Cody's most rewarding role was serving as an Army Emergency Relief (AER) Officer for Army Community Services from 2019 to 2023, supporting soldiers and their families across Alaska and Hawaii.
In December 2021, Cody was called to a crisis at Fort Shafter and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii when jet fuel contaminated the water supply of base housing. Cody and his team swiftly cut through red tape, securing temporary housing, food, supplies, and funding for over 2,750 military families, making sure they had a safe Christmas. For this service, he was awarded the United States Army Civilian Service Achievement Medal in 2021. Thankfully, he made it home just in time to spend Christmas with Chloe, Atigun, and Arleigh.
Cody loved being part of a team, whether winning a soccer tournament, uncovering a weapons cache in Iraq, helping thousands of military families as an AER Officer, or moose hunting with his own family. Teamwork was his superpower.
We will miss him more than words can say, but we know he remains with us, protecting us, cheering us on with love, enthusiasm, and probably a really spicy burrito in hand.
Cody is survived by his loving wife Chloe, and their children Atigun and Arleigh of Fairbanks, Alaska; his father and stepmother, Glen and Kathy Allen; his mother, Sheryl Tatum; his sisters: Shawnté Allen [fiancé David Stroud], Krista Oelschlager and her husband Troy, along with their children Tyler Oelschlager, Casey [Talia] Sargent, and Katlyn [Jacob] Sheets all of Bremerton, Washington; his sister Stephanie Bailey and her husband Jay, and their children Alyssa and Alex of Kenosha, Wisconsin; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends.
Chloe's family also mourns his passing: Coral and George Howe of Fairbanks, Alaska; Weston and Briana Howe, their daughters Emalyn and Greer of Ridgefield, Washington; Ealum and Liz Howe and their children Solvej, Tyler, and Jackson of Anchorage, Alaska.
Cody would have wanted to mention his close Alaskan friends who were like family. Henry and Samantha Bolanos (Kali, Henry, and Maddie), Jeff and Jan Rudd, Andrew and Amy Crabb (Jude, Ellis, Maggie, and Seth), and Mike and Kate Gudmunson (Finnley and Grady). Along with many other close friends across the nation. So many friends and relatives have reached out who loved Cody, and we appreciate all of you. Finally, we want to thank all the first responders and the caring people at Blanchard Funeral Home.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Birch Hill Cemetery, in Fairbanks where Cody will be laid to rest with his beloved dog of 12 years Callie, who passed away in 2022. We can think of no better way for them to take on their next adventure together.
A Celebration of Life will take place on August 2nd at Hygge House in Fairbanks, Alaska, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. It will be an open house for family and friends to visit, share memories of Cody, and offer support to Chloe and the kids. Food or snacks to share are appreciated.
An additional Celebration of Life will be held in Bremerton, Washington.
