Craig Donald Snyder, 80, of Davis, passed away at his home on July 24, 2025. Born on September 23, 1944, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Peter Grosz Jr., and Connie Grosz.

Craig, raised in a military family, lived in various places, including Panama, which he fondly remembered. He attended Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro, Virginia, where he met Diana, his wife, marrying her on June 22, 1963. Craig served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a linguist specialist. He retired from the National Guard at the rank of Master Sergeant after 20+ years of service. Using his GI Bill, he graduated from James Madison University in 1976 and moved to Stephens City, Virginia. There, he was a member of the JAYCEES and coached the Daisy BB gun shooting team. He led Boy Scouts of America Shenandoah Area Council troops. He enjoyed the work he did for Frederick County Parks and Recreation including guiding senior hikes. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed skiing, scuba diving, hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping, while cherishing family time watching his grandsons Miles play baseball and Kenny earn his Eagle Scout rank. In 2005, Craig retired to Davis, West Virginia, working part-time at Canaan Valley Resort's nature center and ski rentals, and playing Santa during Christmas. His life was defined by service, adventure, and dedication to family and community.

He is survived by his children, Leeann Snyder Rhoton and Brian Snyder, both of Stephens City, VA; two grandchildren, Miles Gayles and Kenny Snyder; two siblings, Pamala Grosz and Paul Grosz both of Salisbury, MD, sister in laws Jean LaMastra and Anita Weikel, two generations of nieces and nephews; along with his numerous cousins that he was very close with.

Craig's request for cremation was honored and a celebration of life will be held at a later time.
