Dakeena Oneka Jones, age 52 of New Haven, lovingly called "Keena" by family and close friends was born on December 15, 1972, to the late Wendell Loren Dilbert and Denise Antoinette Jones-Brown in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. She passed away unexpectedly in her home on July 13, 2025.
She grew up in New Haven, Michigan, where she attended the public school system, where she not only excelled in academics, she exceeded any and everything she puts her mind to. She graduated from New Haven High School in 1991. She went on to attend Eastern Michigan University. Later in her education journey, she decided to attend Baker College/Dorsey where she obtained a degree in medical billing and coding.
Dakeena loved being at family gatherings, concerts in the park and spending time with her one and only son, Zek. She was the life of the party.
She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy, her precious son; Ezekiel Omar Jones, her grandmother, Loretta Dilbert of New Haven, sisters; Ebony Denise (Darrel) Davis of Washington DC, Donita Marylynn (David) Hughes of New Haven, Wendy Royal of Columbia, SC, her uncle/brother; Donnell T. Walton of California, a special sister/cousin; Joslyn (Sean) Cann, her special parents; Joseph and Phyllis Ventimiglia, her godmother; Jennifer Mitchell, three step-sisters; Vinise, Valerie and Ronda and step-brother, Daiquiri. She also leaves to mourn a host of relatives and friends.
Dakeena was preceded in death by her parents; Wendell Loren Dilbert and Denise Antoinette Marie Jones-Brown, grandparents; Antionette Marie Rainey and Odell Jones, her sister, Keresha Chavean Brown, grandfather, Ray Hart Dilbert and a step-sister, Sonja Eckles.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 12:00pm (noon) in the Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church – 58527 Delanie St., New Haven. Reverend Arthur Turner will officiate.
