Dale G. Cline, age 72, of Montebello, California, died Thursday, June 26, 2025 in Kaiser Permanente Hospital at Baldwin Park, California, after a period of declining health.

He was born November 22, 1952 in Dover, Ohio to H. Glen and Thelma (Ring) Cline. He graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1971. While at NPHS, he was a proud member of the Quaker Marching Band. After graduation, he started college at the Tuscarawas Campus of Kent State University and worked at Burger King.

Dale entered the United States Army in 1972 and completed his basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He then was assigned to the XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Dale took great pride in his roles as son and brother and then as uncle. At one point during his time in the Army, he drove all the way to Florence, Alabama, to await his sister Janet’s arrival home from the hospital with his new niece, Sarah.

After his military service ended, Dale returned to New Philadelphia to start exploring his employment options. He took the federal civil service test and had his results sent to the western states of California, Colorado and Nevada. After a few months, Hughes Aircraft Company of Glendale, California, offered him a job. He packed up his 1965 Ford Galaxie and made the drive to the west coast. Eventually Dale became a letter carrier for the United States Post Office, from which he would retire in 2009 after 37 years of service.  Dale enjoyed traveling and often returned to Ohio to visit family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Geiser, and two nieces. Survivors include his sister, Linda (Richard) Brown, and brother, Paul Cline, both of New Philadelphia; brother-in-law Charles Geiser of Ashtabula; many nieces and nephews and their families; and his dog, Darcy. He will also be missed by his special friends, Marsha Harmon and Marilyn Stratton of New Philadelphia; and his California family, Joseph Garcia and Jose Aleman and family.

Private family services will be held at a later date. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia, has been entrusted with Dale’s arrangements.
