Danny Giles Obituary

Danny Michael ""Mike"" Giles, 76, of Montvale, VA passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. He was born on December 18, 1948, in Bedford, VA. A son of the late Grover Lester Giles and Eunice Dooley Giles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred Giles and Jimmy Giles.

Mike was a very generous and simple man. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam having received a Purple Heart. He worked for many years as a Journeymen, Supervisor and numerous other roles. He as a member of Iron Workers Union 697 of Roanoke. His love for anything that was Veteran affiliated was so evident. He was so proud of his time in the service and for many years served in many roles as a volunteer with the Salem Veteran's Hospital, a member of DAV Chapter3 of Roanoke and numerous other associations. Mike always was there for family events and gatherings, like making apple butter, killing hogs or Sunday evening dinners and or Holidays. He never expected anything in return. His generosity and ability to always lend a helping hand was recognized throughout the entire family. He was loved by many and will be missed in the days ahead.

Surviving are his siblings, Robert ""Dinkie"" Giles and his wife, Betty, Jerry ""Dewberry"" Giles and his wife, Barbara, Sharon McLain and her husband, Donnie, Sheila Giles, Sandra Giles Dooley and Phillip Giles and his wife, Jane; also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and so many friends.

A Graveside service and celebration of Mike's life will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery 4609 Mountain View Church Road (Rt. 607) Blue Ridge, Virginia 24064 with Rev. Danny Holdren officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Tharp Funeral Home &Crematory Bedford. To the Giles Family,
It was a real pleasure working alongside Mike when I was the Department Commander. He made thing easy, and he was just as easy going. I know the DAV Department of Virginia will miss his pleasant personality and easy going.
