Darcus Jean Pauley, affectionately known as Nan Nan, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025 at the age of 88. A cherished great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, and sister, she was the heart of the family. As a retired school teacher with many years in the classroom, Nan Nan shaped young minds with her patience, sharp wit, and love for storytelling, but it was her pride in her family that truly defined her.
Born on June 27, 1936 in Floyd County, Kentucky, Nan Nan was known for her unwavering love for her family and her immense pride in her grandchildren's accomplishments. She celebrated their every milestone with joy, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams with determination and kindness. She was their biggest cheerleader, and never missed a chance to brag on their successes.
Nan Nan leaves behind a legacy of warmth, wisdom, and devotion. She is the daughter of the late Isom and Melda Hall. She is
Survived by one daughter Phyllis Howard, Son in law Jerry Keith Coleman.
Grandchildren Paul Jr. (Shelly) Howard, Samantha (RA) Burnette, and Shawna Howard.
Great grandchildren Sawyer Howard and Hayes Burnette.
Bonus grandchildren, MJ Sullivan, JK Coleman, Lauren Coleman, Madison Coleman
Sisters Phyllis Sheppard, Nadine Brock, and Irene Hall. Brother in laws Gary Sheppard and Dale Kohler along with many nieces and nephews.
Proceeded in death by her loving husband Samuel Pauley, brothers Virgil Hall, Harold Hall, and sister Reba Kohler.
Pallbearers: Paul Howard Jr. Jerry Keith Coleman, Scott Sheppard, Madison Coleman, Chris Coleman. Her memory will live on in the countless stories, lessons, and love she shared.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday on June 29, 2025, at JW Call Funeral Home, Pikeville, Kentucky. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Services will be 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
