Darryl Keith Hood, 61, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, after a short battle with stage 4 throat cancer on June 30th. He was born on August 29, 1963, in Vienna, Virginia, the son of Glenn and Marie (Brown) Hood. Darryl graduated from James Madison High School in 1981. He grew up alongside his brother, Larry, with whom he shared many cherished memories.
Darryl was previously married to Delores Offerman, and together they raised four daughters. Darryl spent many years working at Tredegar in Manchester before the plant shut down. He then worked at Bradco in Delhi before becoming a custodian for West Delaware Schools in Manchester.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Darryl could often be found cheering on his favorite teams. He was an avid follower of all things sports-related, especially Iowa Hawkeyes football and the NFL. His loyalty to the Washington Redskins never wavered, and game days were sacred in his home. He enjoyed playing sports outside with his children while they were growing up.
Survivors include his mother, Marie Hood of Manchester; his three daughters, Jenny (Steven) Broghammer of Manchester, Ashley (Brian) Miller of Manchester, and Kimberly (Jordan) Hoffmann of Jesup; his ten grandchildren, Caleb, Addison and Nathan Broghammer, Cameron, Carter and Cohen Miller, and Waylon, Hudson, Jaylen and Corbin Hoffmann; his brother Larry (Carla) Hood of Manchester; two nephews; and many friends.
Darryl was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Hood; his beloved daughter, Tammy Hood; grandparents, Earl and Loretta Brown and Hobart and Helen Hood; and uncle, Ron Brown.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thank you to Above & Beyond Home Health Hospice of Monticello for their exceptional care, compassion, and support during Darryl's final days.
