David Bricker Obituary

David Bricker, 72, of Brooklyn, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from an illness that developed quickly.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Smith Funeral Home – Victor. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Victor.
Memorials may be designated to the National Fragile X Foundation or to Rural Education Alternatives (REA), and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, PO Box 485, Victor, IA 52347.
David Marshall Bricker was born on January 30, 1953, in Marengo, Iowa, to Dean and Verabeth Bricker. He lived his later years in Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Community Estates and previously in Victor, Iowa at the family farm. David was born with Fragile X Syndrome, and though he faced challenges, his life was full of love, laughter, and joy. Though David's words were few, the love he gave was immeasurable. He reminded everyone around him of what it means to find joy in the everyday.
David had a big heart and a vivid imagination. He loved firetrucks, police cars, and semis, and often proudly told others that he was a cop, a firefighter, a truck driver-and sometimes all three. He often told others that he was going to "arrest" them. He found joy in simple pleasures: riding in golf carts, collecting soft blankets and stuffed toys, and watching fans spin. His gentleness and curiosity brought smiles to those around him.
David was preceded in death by his father, Dean; his mother, Verabeth; his brother, Kris; as well as several beloved aunts, uncles, and other family members.
He is survived by his siblings Terry (Sandy) Bricker, Larry (Toni) Bricker, Denise Bricker, and Kurt (Deb) Bricker, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and caregivers who loved him dearly. He will be remembered for his kind spirit, his sense of play, and the love he gave so freely.
David's family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, reunited with those who went before him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing him.
