David C. Herman, age 57, of Manitowoc passed away Friday, July 11, 2025 at his residence surrounded by family.
David was born June 22, 1968 in Manitowoc son of Vivian (Senkbeill) Herman and the late Charles (Chuck) Herman. He attended Lincoln High School with the Class of 1986. On October 26, 1996 he was united in marriage to the former Kathleen Penkwitz at first Lutheran Church in Manitowoc.
David's work career started at a very young age where he started off working for Schaus Game Farm in Clover. He then moved on to employment opportunities in the field of Construction. In 1986, at the age of 17, David enlisted into the U.S. Military as a truck driver. David got to experience not only many parts of the United States but also other countries during his enlistment. His enlistment came to an abrupt end in 1990 when he was involved in an on the job Farm Accident which left him paralyzed. After spending 4 months in the hospital, David built himself back up to enjoy all the things he loved in life.
David was a lifelong, avid outdoorsman. He made it an annual tradition to spend the Wisconsin 9 day deer season Up North with friends and family. He also spent many hours small game hunting with family and teaching his children about the outdoors. Looking at David you would never guess that one of his hidden talents was Trap Shooting and Sporting Clays. David spent several years as the Bar Director at the Manitowoc Gun Club and he participated on several different Trap Teams. He also ran an annual Trap Shoot fundraiser with all proceeds going to the Manitowoc County D.A.R.E. Program. Following his passion for Volunteer work, David also ran a local Cub Scout Pack for several years, where he was not only a Den Leader but a Cub Master as well. But at the end of the day his true love was for waterfowl hunting where he not only spent that time with his late father & Uncle but also his wife and 3 children.
Survivors include his wife: Kathy Herman; his children: Erin Zachow (John) of Whitelaw, Tyler Herman (Kendra) of Manitowoc, David Herman Jr.; His Mother: Vivian Herman of Clover; His brother and Sister: Scott Herman (Amy) of Manitowoc, Cheryl Leist (Joe) of Kentucky; his grandchildren: Wyatt Zachow, Hoyt Zachow, Everleigh Zachow, Jameson Zachow of Whitelaw; along with nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other family and friends. David was preceded in death by his father Charles (Chuck) Herman, aunt Peggy Kasbohm, 2 uncles Francis Kasbohm and Bruce Curtis.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025 at the Lakeshore Family Funeral Homes, Pfeffer Funeral Home location (928 S. 14th Street). There will be NO visitation prior to services. Full military honors will follow the service at the funeral home conducted by the VFW Otto Oas Post #659 of Manitowoc.
