David Alton Johnson, Sr. 72, of Lyman, South Carolina, passed away July 12, 2025 surrounded by family at home.
David grew up in Escanaba, Michigan, with three brothers and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mason and Ida Johnson, his son Darrick Johnson, sister Marge (Don) Ruottinen, and brother Mason Johnson, Jr.
He is survived by Donna, his loving and supportive wife of 52 years; son David A.Johnson, Jr. (Tiffany),Campobello, South Carolina and children: Kylee Schiefelbein, Tampa Bay, Florida and Kaitlyn Schiefelbein, Oran, Iowa, Zane Johnson, Zeth Johnson, Campobello, South Carolina; Jasmin Noel Johnson, Aurora, Colorado (daughter of Darrick Johnson); David's siblings Patrick Johnson and Eddie Johnson both of Escanaba, Michigan.
David was a member of Gramling Methodist Church. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1972 to 1975 and retired as a water treatment operator then worked as a technician for irrigation systems. Gifted with an engineering mind, he was a skilled craftsman - one to conceive an idea, build and repair most anything. His grandchildren were his delight and joy. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing.
A memorial service and visitation, time and date to be announced, will be at Gramling Methodist, 14941 Asheville Highway, Campobello, South Carolina 29322, Pastor Rick Brown officiating. Living Waters Funeral Home in Lyman, South Carolina will be in charge of the services. Flowers can be sent to the family of "Dave" Johnson at Gramling Methodist Church. Memorials in memory of David can be sent to the family of Dave Johnson, 510 Inman Road, Lyman, South Carolina 29365.
