David Moffatt Obituary

David Moffatt, 64, passed away on July 12, 2025, in Friendswood, Texas. He was born on October 10, 1960, in Houston to Rowland and Eleanor Moffatt. David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Laurie, daughter and son-in-law Kristen and Alex Schaaf, son and daughter-in-law Benjamin Moffatt and Luisa Gonzalez, sister and brother-in-law Karen and John Pace, brother and sister-in-law Bryan and Linda Moffatt, brother and sister-in-law Rowland and Carla Moffatt, granddaughter and grandson Kate and Evan Schaaf, and many other family members and friends.
David had many hobbies and passions, including gardening, sailing, windsurfing, running, kayaking, and taking care of the turtles and plants that lived in his beautiful backyard. He participated in the 1984 US Olympic windsurfing trials in Los Angeles and enjoyed sailing every Wednesday night with his friends on Clear Lake and Galveston Bay. He was part of the Bay Area Running Club and spent many Saturday mornings participating in races around Houston and supporting his fellow runners. In recent years, he enjoyed kayaking around Armand Bayou and Clear Creek with his friends. He had a large backyard garden where he grew tomatoes, peppers, vegetables and blackberries, which he loved to share with family, friends and neighbors. David raised three-toed box turtles and has a habitat for them in his backyard, better known as "Turtle Heaven".
David retired from The Travelers Insurance Company in December of 2021, where he worked as an insurance claims manager for his entire 36-year career.
A memorial service will be held for David on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Crowder Funeral Home (111 E Medical Center Blvd, Webster, TX 77598) with an opportunity to visit with David's family beginning at 1:00 pm. Because of David's love of gardening, we encourage family and friends to visit his favorite nursery, Maas in Seabrook, or a nursery of their choice, to purchase a plant to care for and nurture in his honor.
