David Luverne Parker, 86, of Rosinton, Alabama, passed away on June 29, 2025. He was born October 14, 1938 to Sherman Parker and Catherine Patterson Parker. He leaves behind his loving wife of 18 years, Bonnie Cooper.
David served in the Alabama Army National Guard as a lineman and later as an active-duty U.S. Army soldier at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He also retired as an operator in intermediates from Monsanto in Pensacola. He loved to travel and often took road trips with his wife to distant states.
David's true passion and calling was always for his music. Growing up in a household where both of his parents were musicians, he began learning multiple instruments at a very young age. David excelled at piano, guitar, banjo, harmonica, mandolin, and many other instruments along with what he considered his primary instrument, the pedal steel guitar. David won a statewide talent competition playing the steel guitar at age 11, and went on to play professionally, recording multiple albums with the gospel group "The Cavaliers". David spent his life playing both gospel and classic country music whenever he had the chance.
In 1989, after retired and settling back in the Rosinton community near his family, he began hosting weekly Saturday night shows with his Classic Country Band, first in his garage and later in a large purpose-built building on his property. His band entertained countless numbers of people comprised of both locals and patrons of nearby campgrounds, many of which began returning year after year as a planned part of their vacations on the Gulf Coast. David continued this tradition for more than 30 years until his health declined.
David was preceded in death by both his parents and his first wife, Jean. His pallbearers will be Micah Husband, Jeffery Thompson, Kenny Gray, Leonard Peavey, Frank Milstead, Walter Cushion, and Terry Otts, all former members of David's band.
Funeral Services will be at Faith Chapel Funeral Home in Cantonment, Florida, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. for the viewing and visitation.
