David Powell Obituary

David Leon Powell, 65 of Tulsa passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 after a sudden illness. He was born at Quinton on July 24, 1959 to Leon and Leola (Wren) Powell. He grew up at Sandridge and Hoyt and graduated from Stigler High School with the class of 1977. He continued his education at Connors State College and earned his Bachelors Degree from Ashford University. He began a career with the Oklahoma State Department of Corrections that spanned some 28 plus years. He later worked for Deco Security Service for several years and currently worked for Tricorps Security until his death. David had a heart for his community serving as a volunteer Fire Fighter, and Reserve Deputy for Haskell County Sheriffs Office for many years. David was an avid sports enthusiast and a life long fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Oklahoma Sooners. David loved coaching his kids and their teammates in T-Ball. He will be remembered as an excellent cook that loved family gatherings and going to the lake.
He is survived by one daughter, Kristin Powell of Tulsa; one son, Derek Powell of Tulsa; one grandson, Patrick Powell of Tulsa; two great grandchildren, Ana'leia Powell and Kilan Breger; two sisters, Delores Harper of Eustus, Florida, Dana Ross and husband Jim Bob of Webbers Falls; two brothers, Don Pearson of Hoyt, Jim Pearson and wife Pam of Stigler; numerous nieces and nephews, and the mother of their children Nancy Ritter. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Leola Powell; one sister, Lana Powell; one nephew, Daniel Pearson; sister in law, Bonnie Pearson; stepfather, Harry Reeder.
Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M. Friday, June 13, 2025 at the R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel with Reverends Bill and Mary Fitzer officiating. Honorary pallbearers include Chris Testa, Eric Pearson, Clint Powell, Rick Turpin, Ricky Shores, Patrick Powell.
