Graveside services for David James Halsey-Rucks, 50 of Vermillion, SD will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Fort Yates, ND. David died on June 26, 2025, at his home in Vermillion. Arrangements are entrusted to Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
David was born on March 23rd, 1975, in Fort Yates, ND to Flora Walking Elk. David was raised in Kenel South Dakota with his 2 brothers and 2 sisters until David moved to Dallas, Texas in his early 30's where he lived briefly before moving back to South Dakota and married his loving husband, Michael Rucks. David was known as Uncle Beets to all his nephews and nieces and for his strong presence that brought warmth and love to all those in his life. David had an artistic soul; he had a passion for carpentry and home design. David had a beautiful, caring and giving heart with all those who loved him. David will forever be missed but never forgotten. Preceded in death by his mother Flora Walking Elk, and father Norman Walking Elk, sister Lee Marie Halsey, uncle Joseph Halsey, and cousins Thomas Delong, Richard and Joseph Austin. David is survived by his husband Michael and his brothers Woodrow Star III, Joseph Walking Elk, sisters Colette Walking Elk and Melissa Mason. Laura (Dewey) Austin, and cousins Patti, Justin, Karen, Tyra, Ian and Chance Halsey and dear friend Chase.
