Demetri Marcel (Me-Me) VanDerVeer was born to Irving and Mary VanDerVeer on December 6,
1965 and was called on by the Lord on August 22, 2024.
Demetri, or as everyone knew him as Me-Me, was a life long resident of Scotch Plains, NJ (Jerseyland), where he had attended Scotch Plains public schools. Growing up he had played every sport that he possibly could throughout his school years proving his multifacet athletic abilities through earning trophies until he had graduated from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High
School in 1983. Although, he was no longer in school he never stopped being an athlete. He always made his was to Jerseyland Park to get in a game of hoops, and always made sure he had a well oiled 10 or 12 speed bike to ride, which he could actually pedal 30-35 mph!
Me-Me had a love for cars, and genuinely loved fixing on them. He was deemed the "J.L. mechanic" since mostly everyone in the community always brought their car to him to get fixed as he utilized his Dad's driveway as his garage. When he wasn't fixing on cars he had obtained his blackseal boilers license and maintained a position with the Plainfield YMCA as a
maintenance mechanic.
Me-Me was a dedicated 49er's fan win, lose, or draw he NEVER turned his back on his "Niner Gang"! He loved house music and swore he could 'cut a rug' like noone else, especially when Ten City's hits, "Devotion" or "That's the Way Love is" came on!
Demetri had a special love for his family and close friends, however he could help out he would. Demetri leaves to cherish his loving memory, Fiancé, Yvette Green; only daughter his "Skaboot", Demetria Helayne VanDerVeer (Derek Kyser); and grandson, Amari Kyser; Sister, Robin VanDerVeer, Brother, Irving M. (Too-Too) VanDerVeer Jr. iii, Father, Irving M. VanDerVeer Jr. ii; the mother of his daughter, Tammy Geiger, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great
nephews, great great nephews, family, and friends. Demetri was predeceased by his Mother Mary
