Dennis “Doc” Marshall Gregory, 84, of Plano, IL passed away on January 4, 2025. Dennis was born on March 23, 1940 in Joliet, IL to James and Lucille (Emerick) Gregory. Doc married Virginia Meyer on August 10, 1957 in Joliet, IL at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Doc graduated from A.O. Marshall Grade School and Joliet Central High School. He went on to work for 45 years at Caterpillar Tractor Company and finished as a supervisor. Doc was involved in St. Mary’s Holy Name Society, Lector, Treasurer for Plano Sports Boosters’ and he was a blood donor.
He liked golf, fishing and watching his Cubs and Bears play. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. He liked smoking his pipe while cutting grass. He was also very quick-witted and loved a good joke.
Doc was very active in his son’s sports as a baseball coach for many years and never missed his son’s events, academic or otherwise.
Doc is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia; 5 sons, Clint (Lisa) Gregory, Brad (Brenda) Gregory, Darren (Kerry) Gregory, Brian (Heather) Gregory and Eric (Amanda) Gregory; 18 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Son, Mark Gregory; Siblings, Beverly (George) Hacke, June (Bill) Ellis, Ronald (Connie) Gregory and Wayne (Barbara) Gregory.
Family has asked that donation to be sent to the Open Door Rehabilitation Center in Sandwich, IL, St. Mary's Parish center in Plano, IL or to the donors choice.
Services will be held at a later date.
