Dent Edward Mays Sr., 73, of Jasper, Texas departed this life Saturday June, 7, 2025.
Dent Edward Mays Sr., 73, of Jasper, TX and member of Westside Church of Christ, passed away on June, 7, 2025. He was born on October, 21, 1951 in Jasper, Texas, to President and Parthener Mays. He later married Diann Mays and had 9 children and one son before his marriage to his wife.
Dent was a dedicated hard worker and a man of many talents. He spent a number years working in pulpwood starting at the age of 16, then went on to own rental properties for over 40 plus years. He provided homes to many as well as provided commercial lawn services and more. The following message of condolences was shared with the family which shows a glimpse of part of his life's work with rental properties: "Good morning, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. He fought a good fight. He helped so many people with places to stay. His earthly duties are done. Job well done. I know words of comfort may not comfort you during this time. I'm praying for your strength. May he rest peacefully with the Lord. Love y'all."
Though Dad may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of hard work and legacy honored. He was a man of kindness and generosity and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Dad loved the Lord, but he also loved to dance every now and again at family gatherings when encouraged to bust a James Brown move! His love for Sweet Jesus and dance moves was something he shared with his children, leaving a mark on us that will never fade.
He is survived by his wife: Diann Mays, children: Tory Hunt, Twanna Collins (Mark), Dent Mays Jr. ( Louisita), Tequila Mays, La'Toria Mays, Karissa Mays-Adams (Jasen), Clint Mays (Raven), Sierria Mays, Edwin Mays, Demi Mays, along with 13 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. His surving siblings are Mildred Williams (Late Arnold Jr.), Lillie Pearl Fillyaw (Clayton), Betty Jewel Tukes (Lavel Sr.), and Tommie Lee Mays. Along with his family, he has many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly as well as his Grandpups: Bella, Nova, Callie, Baby, Bruno, & Honey.
He was preceded in death by his parents: President and Parthener Mays, his siblings: Erenest J. Mays (EJ), Freddie Lee Mays, Eddie B. Mays, Billie Joe Mays Sr., Bobbie J. Mays, Raymond Mays, and Mamie Fowler.
We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever. He always said "You work by the sweat of your brow" and "No matter what, always keep your faith in Sweet Jesus and trust Him to bring you through." This is what he lived and fought a solid fight by til the very end. So we would like to leave you all with the following scriptures:
Genesis 3:19 (NET) By the sweat of your brow you will eat food until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you will return."
Now rest well Bossman! Rest well! Rest with Sweet Jesus! In Jesus' Holy Name Amen!
