Dewey Edward Kennedy, a man of exceptional courage and boundless love, passed away June 21, 2025 in Richardson, Texas. Born December 18, 1951, in Vivian, Louisiana, Dewey's early years were steeped in the rich, cultural tapestry of the South. He was the youngest child of the late John Marvin and Wavie (Mitchell) Kennedy, and he shared a vibrant childhood with siblings Rosa Ann Kennedy Josey and the late John, William and Vanessa Kennedy.
At the tender age of 17, Dewey ("Buddy" to most family and friends) eloped with his childhood sweetheart, Susan McCarter Kennedy. They both went on to La. Tech University where Buddy was active in the ROTC program. Upon graduation from La. Tech with a degree in Math/Computer Technology, he immediately left for the Marine Corps OCS (Officer's Candidate School) in Fredericksburg, Va. where he was awarded Distinguished Cadet and Honor Graduate. Military assignments led to Pensacola, Virginia and North Carolina, many lasting friendships and wonderful memories. After completing active duty as a Captain, Buddy remained in the Marine Corps Reserves for several years and retired as a Major.
Buddy's love for technology kept him abreast of the latest advancements and he also had a successful career as a civilian working in the world of technology. Eventually he started his own company, Kennedy Consulting USA. Upon reaching the age for "full retirement" Buddy wasn't ready to do so just yet, and brought his passion for precision and camaraderie to Academy Sports where he happily serviced the gun bar.
As the life of the party, Dewey's ebullient personality made every gathering memorable. His enthusiasm for the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys was infectious and every game was a special event in the Kennedy household (chili dogs mandatory). His dogs, faithful companions through the years, added to the warmth and joy of his home.
Buddy and Susan's remarkable union was blessed with more than 55 years of marriage, during which they welcomed three children: Shannon, Kelly, married to Travis Durham, and Shea, married to Kimberly. Buddy adored his ten grandchildren: McKenzie, married to Pedro Serrano, Zachary, Madison, Trey, Lukas, Lena, Jonathan Jr, Trip, Trevor and Trista. His legacy continued to bloom with the arrival of his three great-grandchildren, Bentley, Atlas and McLaren Serrano. Visits with Buddy's sister, Rosa Ann Josey and numerous nieces and nephews were always a treasured part of his life.
Above all, Buddy was loving and generous - always quick to offer support, virtues that defined every aspect of his life. His legacy is carried on not just in his family's hearts, but also in the countless lives he touched with his kind spirit. He left this world a better place, and his memory will be cherished and celebrated by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
