Diann Avila Obituary

Diann Marie Avila, née Augustson, 78, of Tulare, CA, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at 3:28 AM at Kaweah Health Medical Center. Born on March 18, 1947, in Bremerton, WA, to Les and Betty Augustson, Diann's deep Catholic faith guided her life. She met her beloved husband, Vasco O. Avila, a successful Hanford dairyman (d. May 19, 2020), in the summer of 1964 on a flight from California to Alaska, where she was joining her family who moved there in January, and he was reporting for duty at Fort Richardson near Anchorage. Together, they built a wonderful life, filled with life's ups and downs but steadfast in their commitment to each other. She cherished quilting heirloom blankets, traveling to Alaska, playing cards with her sisters-in-law, and cheering her grandchildren at high school football games. Her big heart shone as she cared for the well-being of many, offering wisdom and advice to those facing life's difficulties. Active at St. Rita's Catholic Church, she is survived by children David G. Avila (Mary) and Carrie C. Rosa (Carlos), brother John Augustson, sister Vickie Fant, eight grandchildren (Steven Jr., Taylor, Alex, Ashley (Artem), Kristen (Irwin), Derek (Rylee), Devin, Dylan), and three great-grandchildren (Beau, Bristol, Owen). Predeceased by son Steven (d. September 25, 2023), she is trusted to be reunited with Vasco and Steven in God's loving embrace, resting in peace.
A public viewing will be held July 30, 2025, at 4 PM, followed by a rosary at 6 PM, at Miller's Funeral Home, Tulare. A funeral Mass is scheduled for July 31 at 10 AM at St. Rita's Catholic Church (954 S O St.), followed by burial at 11:15 AM at Tulare Public Cemetery on Kern Ave. Reception to follow at Tulare Angrense Athletic Club, 1521 E Bardsley Ave, Tulare.
