Dixie Diane Basquez, 72, of Waelder, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025. She was born on January 06, 1953, in Cuero, Texas to her parents Charlie Josephine (McGarity) and Howard "Newt" Harris.

Dixie was well known in Waelder; she was deeply passionate about serving her community. She was a business manager at Waelder ISD for many years, and apart from her career she volunteered her time to many local organizations. She was the treasurer of the Waelder Cemetery Association, a founding member and secretary of the Waelder Visitors & Heritage Foundation, a member of the Lions Club, and a member of the Waelder Homecoming Foundation.

Apart from her involvement with the community of Waelder, she was a loving wife and mother. Her family brought a lot of joy into her life. You could often find her watching the Big Joe Polka Show and driving around the family ranch with her husband "Pete" to feed and check on the cattle. She especially loved spending time with her daughter Amanda and her grandson "Booger Bear". If you knew her, you loved her. Her absence is deeply felt by family and friends, and she will be dearly missed.

Dixie is survived by her husband of 41 years Pilar "Pete" Basquez, her daughter Amanda Basquez Soefje (William), her grandson Carson Pilar Soefje, her sisters Donna Harris Bennett (Michael) and Susan Harris Cernoch (Paul), her brother Michael Harris, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
