Dohnree Powell Cribb passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 7, 2025. Dohnree was the eldest daughter of the late T.P and Helen Shuler Powell. Born on September 5, 1935, she was the oldest of nine siblings – predeceased by Betty Dennis, Harry Francis Powell, Joe Powell, and Greg Powell and survived by Margaret Miller, Gwendolyn Holloman, Julie Varn, and Ronald Powell. Dohnree was married to her beloved L.H. for 42 years before his passing in 1999. She was a devoted mother to Dr. Bryan Cribb (Kari) and Cathy Polk (Riley) and loving grandmother to Dr. Shuler Polk (Jane), Betsy Watson (Richmond), Helen Pindar (Lindsay), Carson Martin (Taylor), Annie Cribb, and Madelyn Polk. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Laz Martin, Myla Martin, and Violet Polk (with another on the way).
Dohnree was always at the heart of her community as organist at Union United Methodist Church, Sunday school teacher, and high school English and Spanish teacher at Hemingway and Pleasant Hill High Schools and Francis Marion Academy. She was respected by her students and known for her professionalism, but also deeply loved. She received calls and visits regularly from former students who always told sweet stories of their time in class together. She was named Georgetown County Teacher of the Year, the South Carolina Reading Teacher of the Year, and honored in the Teacher Hall of Fame. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, holding a leadership role for many years. Before her teaching years, she was valedictorian of her class at Hemingway High School and always had a passion for grammar and literature throughout her time as a student at Winthrop University, and later as a graduate student of The Citadel and Auburn University. Dohnree also volunteered with Tidelands Georgetown Hospice for many years.
Dohnree took pride in her two children, and especially in her six grandchildren (and now three great-grands). She and L.H. regularly visited and spent time with them, and even after his passing, "Mimi" was always making the trip for school grandparents' days and other events. While she was known and loved for many things, the beauty of Dohnree will always be remembered through the way she loved her grandchildren, expressed through countless hugs, phone calls, and letters.
Dohnree treasured her faith as her greatest gift, above all her accomplishments, and we know she is now rejoicing in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ, as well as reuniting with the love of her life, L.H.
A funeral service to honor her life will be held on Friday, January 10th at 2:00 PM. at Union United Methodist Church 8209 Rose Hill Rd. Georgetown, SC 29440. Burial directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway SC, will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the service in the Union United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Union United Methodist Church P.O. Box 580 Hemingway, SC 29554 or Tidelands Georgetown Hospice 2591 N Fraser St, Georgetown, SC 2944.

Im just learning of her passing . She was one of my favorite teachers at Pleasant Hill schools. She taught with heart , joy and passion and she loved her students.
As an adult, I often ran into her in the grocery store. She remembered me for a long time until about 3 years ago. She will be missed .Love and prayers to the family
