Dolores Elizabeth Conolly passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, in Sioux City, IA, at the age of 99. Born on February 17, 1926, in Sioux City, Dolores was the daughter of Edgar and Ida (Brouillette) Addington. As a young girl, her family moved to Michigan, where she grew up, attended school, and graduated from high school.
Following World War II, Dolores was united in marriage to James L. Conolly in Paw Paw, MI. This union brought forth a loving family, blessed with nine children. In 1957, Dolores and James moved to Sioux City. Dolores was a busy homemaker who dedicated her life to raising her children and often extended her nurturing spirit by babysitting for other families. Outside of her responsibilities at home, she had a passion for sewing, crocheting, gardening, and camping, dedicating her time to activities that brought her joy. Her Catholic faith was central to her life, and she was active in her church throughout the years.
Dolores’ upbringing during challenging times instilled in her a strong work ethic and an independent spirit. While she could be stubborn and occasionally a bit ornery, those traits only added to her charm and personality.
Dolores is survived by her children: Caryl (John) Wilton of Omaha, NE, Kevin Conolly of Des Moines, IA, Jennifer (Darold Stahlnecker) Countryman of Kingsley, IA, Patty (Tim) Linden of Solon, IA, JoAnn (Brian) Cousino of Nebo, NC, Thomas (Julie) Conolly of Moville, IA, Kelly (Janice) Conolly of Dakota Dunes, SD, and Marianne (Eric) Davenport of Iowa City, IA. Dolores’ family also includes seventeen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Ida Addington; her husband, James Conolly; two sons, one in infancy and Michael Conolly; two daughters-in-law, Linda Conolly and Melanie Conolly; and three siblings, Genevieve (Bob) Goldsboro, Vivian (Gale) Spencer, and Clarence (Liz) Addington.
A visitation in honor of Dolores will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City, followed by a Mass celebrating her life from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Following the service, there will be a luncheon and time of fellowship. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
