Bernida is survived by her sons, Jerry Dean Newell and Michael Scott Newell and wife, Nicki, all of Waltonville; daughter, Glenda Sue Simmons and husband, Charlie of Ozark, Illinois; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bernida was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Melinda Newell; and siblings, Frank Pyszka, Stanley Pyszka, Albert Pyszka, and Bernice Osborn.
Bernida was a member of Saint Barbara Catholic Church. She enjoyed the outdoors where she could deer hunt, garden, fish, and go camping. Most of all, Bernida cherished being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 12:30 pm at Saint Barbara Catholic Church in Scheller, Illinois with Father Steve Pautler officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.

My sorrow goes out to you all , over the passing of this precious little lady , now in glory land where she longed to be, reunited with others who loved her and the good Lord. I would have been there at the wake, but as all good plans sometimes goes awry, so did mine. So the best I can do is to give you a hug in this here message. I was so blessed to have helped her at her home for such a short while, and blessed to gotten to know her better. I ,too, am looking forward to seeing her again , along with her mother as well. Please know that my prayers are said for peace and easing of your sorrow.
