Donald Lee Ayres Sr., passed away July 11, 2025 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was the son of the late John and Lois Caperton Ayres. He was the beloved husband of Melba Peacock Ayres.
Donald was a man of strong faith, and was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church in Suffolk, Virginia. He made everyone laugh, and never knew a stranger. He was always a guiding light for anyone facing hard times. He served in the U.S. Navy and was an Electronics Engineer for many years.
He is predeceased by his parents and his siblings; Owen Ayres and Johnny Ayres.
He is remembered by his wife of 55 years; Melba Peacock Ayres, his daughter; Stephanie Mikels (Shane), and her children Sean Mendoza (Alexis) and Kallista McMahan (Brett), his son; Donald "Donnie" Ayres Jr. and his children, Isabelle Ayres, Ethan Ayres, Lorelei Ayres, and their mother, Jennifer Boni, and his sister-in-law; Pat Ayres.
A funeral service will be held Thursday July 17, 2025 at 2:00pm at Bethlehem Christian Church (1549 Holland Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434) with visitation one hour prior. To honor his military service, Donald will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veteran's Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia, on Tuesday August 5, 2025 at 1:00PM.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to CHKD or the American Veterans Association.

We are so sorry to hear of your loss.
Don was a kind loving person. We remember Don to always be in such good spirits he always had a smile on his face and a kind word about everyone. He had a infectious laugh which always put a smile on his grandchildrens face. He truly loved his family, and they loved him so much. Thank you Don for your service to this county. You were a kind wonderful man.
