Donald "Don" Boswell, 87, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, with his family by his side. Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother whose legacy will be profoundly felt by all who knew him. He was born on November 17, 1937, in Scottsburg, Indiana, to the late L.A. Boswell and Martha Mae (Ritter) Boswell. On March 18, 1955, Don married the love of his life, Beatrice "Bea" Reynolds, and she survives. He graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1956. Don served in the United States Navy Reserve. He was employed at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for forty years. Outside of work, Don held a profound love for family, his family farm, John Deere tractors and golf. The Boswell family farm has been in the family since 1868, and he cherished the connection to the land and legacy it represented. Don was a charter member and the first Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Scott County Council #8052. Don was involved with the Scott County Moose Family Center #2324, the American Legion Post #234, and the Twilight League at the WestWood Golf Course, demonstrating his love for camaraderie and community service.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; three sons, William Boswell, Kenneth Boswell, and Joseph Boswell; and one granddaughter, Taryn Vires. In addition to his wife, Bea, he is survived by two sons, James "Jim" Boswell and Steve (Charlotte) Boswell; two daughters, Anna (Hank) Jentzen and Karen (Troy) Alexander; two daughters-in-law, Robin and Lorrie Boswell all of Scottsburg, Indiana; one daughter-in-law, Melissa Boswell of Scranton, Pennsylvania; one sister, Margaret Whitaker of Newburgh, Indiana; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana, starting at 4:00pm. A rosary service will be held at 7:30pm. There will be a visitation on Thursday, July 17, prior to the funeral, starting at 10:00am at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. The funeral Mass will begin at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana.
Memorial donations can be made in Don's name to American Martyrs Catholic Church, Boys Town, or the Boswell Family Fund with the Scott County Community Foundation c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
