Donald James Hagan, 85 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on July 9th, 2025 at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was born in French Lick, Indiana on October 22nd, 1939 to John Luther and Agnes (Cope) Hagan.

Don was preceded in death by his Parents; Sisters – Rae Marven in infancy; Patricia (Mrs. James E. Lane) and Brothers – Reid, Elvin and Marion Hagan.

He was a 1958 graduate of Springs Valley High School and extremely proud of being in the schools originating class.  Don retired after 40 plus years of work as a project manager of multi-family construction.

Don was an avid supporter of the 2nd Amendment and active in various shooting matches near the Valley community.  His game hunting foray landed a couple of wild boars, Horace and Borace, which he had mounted and reflected upon with pride and humor.

He enjoyed reading, with poetry becoming his “go to” favorite in his later years. He possessed many hundreds of books and likely read several thousand in his lifetime. His knowledge and respect for American history was among the top. You could often find a small book copy of the constitution in the front pocket of Don’s Carhart button down shirt.  A friend nicknamed him William Buckley, Jr., referencing his look and manner.

Don is survived by:

Nephews – David Hagan (Jill) of Fishers, Indiana and Robert Lane (Claudia) of Terre Haute, Indiana

Nieces – Nita Hagan of Alexandria, Louisiana, Susan Berg of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Nicky Margolin of Anderson, Indiana

Several Great and Great-Great Nieces and Nephews
