Donald R. Heinze (Hockey), age 79 of Coon Rapids, MN, went to be with Jesus, peacefully in his home with family by his side on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents Betty Grew (stepfather Lawrence Hockey) and Donald F. Heinze.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Joyce (Anderson); his four children Donald L. (Victoria), Robert and Jill; his three grandchildren Lauren (Josh), Donald T. and Elisabeth; cousins Carole, Nadine (deceased) and Marko, and many other cousins.
Early in his career he worked as a draftsman at several large companies including Medtronic and Control Data. Later in his career he worked in transport as a truck driver. One of his favorite experiences in that role was delivering fire trucks across the United States.
Don was an avid car guy and owned many classic cars over the years. He was a member of Minnesota Street Rod Association (MSRA). He also acquired his pilots license and was a longtime member of Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). He had a lifelong love of reading, cooking, and watching sports, especially the New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers.
The family would like to give a special thank you to DaVita Mississippi Gateway Dialysis for their love and support throughout Don's journey with End-Stage Kidney Disease. We would also like to thank the medical team at Methodist Hospital for their expertise with navigating his recent Pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
He will be missed greatly by family and friends.
Private family interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, St Paul, MN.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Church (9301 Eden Prairie Rd, Eden Prairie) on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
