Donald E. Schafer, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025. He was born in Akron to Christian Adam and Martha Eve Schafer and was the youngest of six children. He was a 1954 graduate of Hower High School in Akron. After high school, Donald served in the Army from 1954 to 1956 as a tank driver in Germany. When he returned home, he found employment at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and worked for over 40 years from 1956 to 1997.
Mom and Dad met at an autumn dance on October 3, 1958 and danced to the song "Some Enchanted Evening" which became their song. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on November 21, 2020.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Linda in 2021; son, Christopher in 2009 and siblings Eileen Dunn, Vera Anthon, Harold Schafer, Rosemary Davis and Evelyn Hardwick. Donald is survived by his daughters, Catherine Schafer-Drake (twin sister of Christopher) and Sally Goodyear and many nieces and nephews.
Dad would often tell us as we were heading to bed "sleep tight, and don't let the bed bugs bite". Goodnight Dad! Until we meet again.
Services will be 2:15pm Wednesday, July 23 at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
