Donald Leroy Schmitz, age 92, of Shelbyville, MO, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Clarence Care Center in Clarence, MO.
Don was born May 14, 1933 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Raymond and Maxine Schmitz. He was united in marriage to Margaret Robertson on April 29, 1955 in Webster Groves, MO. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2022.
Don is survived by his two children, Terry Ann Allen (Steven) of Crestwood, MO and Donnie Schmitz (Stephanie) of Shelbyville, MO; four grandchildren, Kate Bardol (Nick) of St. Louis, MO, Dan Allen (Amy) of St. Louis, MO, Shelby Kenyon (Trevor) of St. Louis, MO, and William Riley Schmitz (Brianna) of Kearney, MO; and nine great-grandchildren, Alberic, Lucian, Henry, Owen, Piper, Brinley, Raelyn, Lincoln, and Elenore.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; parents; an infant great-granddaughter, Molly Allen; and brother, Ron Schmitz.
Don was a member of New London Christian Church. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Don worked for Maytag for 47 years. He enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, and cutting wood. Don loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and getting to attend their events and ball games. In his later years, he enjoyed sitting out on the porch watching the hummingbirds.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 10 am – 11 am at 5251 Shelby 330; Shelbina, MO with a memorial service immediately following at 11 am. Memorials may be made to Clarence Care Center or the Shelby County Senior Center.
