Donald Peter "Don" Weis, age 95, of Port Edwards, WI passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at St. Alexander Catholic Church in Port Edwards, WI. Father John Swing will officiate. Visitation will be held at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa, WI on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 4:00pm – 7:00pm and on Tuesday at church from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am. Burial will be held at Port Edwards Cemetery following the service with military honors performed by American Legion Post #9.
Don was born on April 15, 1930, at their family home farm in the Town of Day, Marathon County to Eugene and Mary (Wilhelm) Weis. He proudly served in the U.S. Marines from 1952-1954 during the Korean conflict.
Don married Betty Ann Weber on October 26, 1954, at St. Andrews Catholic Church at Rozellville. He worked at Nekoosa-Papers (Domtar) Port Edwards mill for 35 years, retiring in 1992 as a starch cook. He then worked as custodian at St. Alexander Church, where he was also an Usher, Cantor, and Eucharistic Minister.
Don was a life member of the American Legion Post #9, where he also served as finance officer for 13 years. He was also a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 12662. Don was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Division of Aging, and numerous other organizations.
Don was an avid gardener, true handyman, and talented woodworker. He was known for his strong faith and willingness to lend a helping hand. Don and Betty enjoyed traveling, bicycle riding, and spending time with family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Don is survived by his children, Daniel (Tammie) Weis, Dale (Crystal) Weis, Donna (Jim) Naylor, and Lori Weis; grandchildren, Sheena (Nick) Vitello, Jason (Priscilla) Weis, Adam Weis, Brandon (Trang) Naylor, Luke (Jenna) Orheim, and Lacie (Jim Pecher) Orheim; great-grandchildren, Lilli Pecher, Leeta Pecher, Elena Orheim, Jade (Paul) Stormoen, Easton Gasch, and Brayden Weis; sister, Virginia Johnson; brother, Clem Weis; and special friend, Helen Guilfoyle and her family.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, Eugene and Mary; sisters, Sister Mercita Weis F.S.P.A., Dorothy Hamus, Marie Walter; and brothers, Harold Weis, Norbert Weis, and Melvin Weis.
The family would like to thank the staff at Renaissance Assisted Living, Edgewater Haven Nursing Home, and Heartland Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
