Don was born on July 13, 1930 in Carroll, IA, at St. Anthony Hospital. He was the son of August and Marie (Wernimont) Wiederin. His family moved from Carroll to the Ralston area when he was a young boy. Don began farming at a very young age and was drafted into the US Army in 1952 serving two years during the Korean Conflict stationed in Japan. Don was married to LuEtta Fick, while home on furlough, on July 12, 1952 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll by Msgr. Greteman. Following his military service he returned to Glidden where he farmed until 1960 when they moved to their current farm northeast of Ralston.
Don held a real estate license and worked with Hoyt Appraisals in Jefferson for many years as well worked with Northrup King Seed. He was a member of the Merle Hay Post #386 of the American Legion in Glidden, the Ralston Volunteer Fire Department, and the Glidden Mutual Community Insurance Board. He served on the St. Paul's Catholic Church Council in Scranton until its closing and was currently a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden.
Don and Lu enjoyed summer trips to Okoboji with the family and winter trips to Mesa, Arizona where they had many good memories and friends. Don was a hard worker, an ethical and trustworthy man, had a fun sense of humor, and could strike up a conversation with most anyone. He will fondly be remembered for his contagious laugh.
Don is survived by his wife LuEtta of 73 years of rural Glidden; three daughters and their families: JoAnn Johnson (Brian) of Glidden, Cindy Klink (Randy) of Vail, and Jackie Sward (Rick) of Monument, CO; a son-in-law Lynn Stork of Glidden; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a brother Richard Wiederin (Linda) of San Jose, CA; his in-laws: LeRoy Fick (Gloria) of Pleasant Hill, IA, Sharon Scharfenkamp (Paul) of Ames, IA, Marcia Wiederin of Coal Valley, Il, and Gordon Harman of Missouri; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Don was preceded in death by his parents August and Marie Wiederin; his in-laws Roy and Dorothy Fick; two brothers: Marvin Wiederin and Irwin Wiederin (Ruby); a sister Rosemary Harman; a sister-in-law LaVonne Peter (Alfred); his daughter Joleen Stork; and a grandson Tate Wenck.
