Donna Kay Jarrell Hunley

1944-2025

"She lived her life with hands that served, a heart that loved, and a faith that never wavered."

Donna Kay Jarrell Hunley, age 81, of Catlettsburg, KY, was embraced in the arms of her Heavenly Father on August 11, 2025. Donna passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at Community Hospice.

Donna Kay Jarrell Hunley was born on a warm summer's day in 1944 on July 24th. She was the blessing of the late Harrison Gilbert and Ann Marie Hopkins Jarrell. Her childhood was one full of cherished memories shared with her six siblings. Donna was a graduate of Thomas R. Brown High School. Growing up in a town where everyone knew everyone and families were close; Donna married her small-town sweetheart in 1961. Together they built a family blessed with two precious baby girls. Donna made it a point to fill her home with love, the smell of homecooked meals, and the security of happiness. Donna did very well with what she had to work with, and her children grew year after year with a strong foundation of faith and picture of what a mother's love looked like.

Donna's love for her family was rooted in Christ who always came first in her heart. She was a Proverbs women worth more than rubies. Her grandmother and mother passed down knowledge and understanding of faith to her and at a young age Donna joined the Catlettsburg Harvest Church of God. She further passed down that knowledge and understanding and before she knew she realized it five generations of her family had sat in those pews and that was something to really be proud of. Donna's faith did not require boasting, however, it shined through in her daily life like a light in the darkness. She was a chosen child of God. The family takes comfort in knowing that she is rejoicing with Jesus today. Donna's life work was dedicated to serving in the church she loved so dearly, she taught, cooked, and enjoyed the fellowship of others, and her soul was fed with the work of the Women's Ministry. There was no doubt that Donna loved the Lord, and her church brought her a sense of peace that people searched their whole lives for. She will be deeply missed by the congregation of her time that remains.

Though our hearts ache at her absence, we rejoice in knowing Donna has received her eternal reward. The seeds of love and faith she planted will continue to grow in the lives of those she touched. Her family rests in the promise that this is not goodbye, but a "see you later", for one day we will meet again in the presence of our Savior.

Donna leaves behind her devoted daughter, Virginia Griffith and her husband Tim of Catlettsburg, KY, three precious grandchildren, Jacob Griffith and his fiancé Jayda, Sameul Bobst, and Channing Ross Bobst and his wife Sarah, two great-grandchildren Cora Bobst and Leola Ann Mansfield, and one sister Pat Jarrell Blankenship of Catlettsburg, KY. Also surviving are many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her late parents, Donna is rejoicing in Heaven with her Husband of 53 years Gary "Buck" Hunley, one daughter Judy Bobst, two grandchildren, Kevin Zornes and Gary Glen Zornes, two brothers Ronnie Jarrell and Troy Jarrell, and three sisters Pam Jarrell, Janice Jarrell, and Eve Jarrell.

A funeral service to honor the life of Donna will be held on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Catlettsburg Harvest Church of God, with Pastor Greg Wirzfeld and Pastor Roger Wireman officiating. Visitation for friends and family will be held prior to the service from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. Donna will be laid to rest following the service along side her husband at Catlettsburg Cemetery.
