It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donna Porter, a beloved member of the Metter community, who left this world on March 3rd, 2025. She was 65 years old and the cherished widow of Lewis Porter.
Born on November 8th, 1959, to J.L. and Virginia Johnson in Metter. After graduating from high school, she embarked on a journey of adventure with her husband, Lewis, during his service in the Air Force. Their travels took them to various places, including Biloxi, MS, Warner Robins, GA, Berlin, Germany, and Cocoa Beach, FL. In 1986, they returned to their roots in Metter, where Donna continued to nurture her love for family.
Donna dedicated much of her career to food service, most being in Candler County School System and East Georgia College in Swainsboro, GA. She enjoyed serving the children and staff at Metter Elementary School for many years.
She was known for her green thumb, often tending to her beautiful flowers that brought joy to her home and those around her. Donna cherished the moments spent with her loved ones, especially her granddaughters, with whom she loved to take on nature walks and scavenger hunts.
Fishing was a beloved pastime for Donna and Lewis, and many treasured memories were made on the water. Whether it was casting a line on the Altamaha River, the Coast, the Ohoopee River, or simply enjoying a quiet day at a pond, these moments were filled with laughter and love.
Donna is preceded in death by her father, J.L. Johnson; her beloved husband, Lewis Porter; and her nephew, Tad Giles. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and special memories that will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
Donna is survived by her mother, Virginia Turner Johnson; sister Debra Moyers (D.L.); son, Jeremy Porter; daughters, Tiffany Tucker (Troy), Hollie Edenfield (Brad); and granddaughters, Anniston Porter, Ayle Jae Porter, and Kate Edenfield, , who brought her immeasurable joy and happiness. In addition to her immediate family, Donna is also survived by several aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will remember her for her nurturing spirit and the love she shared so freely.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025 at 11:30 am at Metter Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:30 am at the church on Monday.
Interment will follow in Lake Cemetery.
