Donna Jean Spence, of Jeffersonville, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 4:55 PM at Norton Clark Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
She was born on June 6, 1959, in Fairdale, Kentucky, to the late Donald Backherms Sr. and Mary Alice (Danner) Backherms. Donna was a devoted member of Howard Park Christian Church, where she faithfully served as secretary for 27 years.
She had a vibrant and creative spirit, which she poured into her work as a jeweler with Moore Jewelers and as the former owner of Spring Street Coffee Café.
On February 1, 1997, she married the love of her life, Derek Spence, who survives. In addition to her husband, Donna is survived by her two beloved children, Kyla Spence and Jacob Spence, whom she loved deeply and was fiercely proud of. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Backherms Jr. in addition to several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her siblings, Teresa Coble, Denis Backherms, and Susan Backherms.
A memorial visitation will be held at Howard Park Christian Church, 450 West Norwood Avenue, Clarksville, IN, on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with a memorial service to follow at 5:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Howard Park Christian Church or Southern Indiana Animal Rescue.
