Doris Voigt, 93, of Avon
Funeral services are 1:30 PM, Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Avon. Burial is in the Baptist Cemetery, rural Avon. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 5-7 PM. The service will be live-streamed on the First Baptist Church, Avon, SD Youtube page. Peters Funeral Chapel in Avon is in charge of arrangements.
Doris Ruth (Ludens) Voigt was born to John and Theresa (Wynia) Ludens on September 20, 1931 on a farm northwest of Springfield. She was taken to heaven on December 8, 2024 at the age of 93.
Doris graduated from Springfield High School in 1949. Following high school, she worked as a bookkeeper at the creamery in Yankton.
She married Vert Voigt on September 7, 1956 at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Springfield. They were married 65 years when Vert passed away in 2022. Four children were born to their union.
Doris received Christ as her personal savior at a young age and was baptized by Rev. Wiens in Avon First Baptist Church She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Avon. She worked in the office at Avon Livestock Auction for over 20 years and was known for making the best potato salad for the Lions Fun Fest. She was a wonderful helpmate to Vert on the farm. She occasionally drove trucks/trailers for harvest, walked beans (& made her kids help) and was often running for parts or bringing lunch to the field. She had no blood sisters but felt especially close to her sisters-in-law. She liked to embroider and made pillowcases and quilts for her grandchildren. She enjoyed family gatherings and felt a special joy when her grandchildren came to visit. She taught her children to work hard and to pray continually. She was a gentle spirit with deep faith and lived out her faith in a quiet manner.
Thankful for having shared her life are: daughters: Kay Davidson, Joan (Bryan) Sagmoe, son, Paul (Tracy) Voigt; grandchildren: Clare (Sebastian) Davidson-Mino, Thresa Davidson, Jackson Davidson, Nathan Davidson, Lauren (Travis) Rheault, Jaron Sagmoe, Derian Voigt, Cassandra Voigt (fiancée Clayton Collins); great grandchildren: Lucia and Mateo Mino; brother, Jim Ludens; and sister-in-law Mabel Ludens.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Vert; an infant son, Donald; her parents; her brother, Robert Ludens; sister-in-law, Kathleen Ludens; son-in-law Jack Davidson; and niece Delilia Weber.
