On March 26, 2025, Doris May Wilson (née Lewis) our mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away at the age of 93 following complications from pneumonia. Doris was born In Milwaukee Wisconsin on June 2,1931 to Stuart Douglas Lewis and Pearl Charlton. At the early age of 3 she lost her birth father in a car accident. Her mother moved out to California with Young Doris and her baby sister Virginia. Her mother later met and married Francis (Red) Blakeman and the new family added one more child, a brother, Frank Blakeman. Doris married Gene Hobart Wilson on September 10, 1950, in Live Oak California. Together they had two sons, Jeffrey Lewis and Michael Edward. Gene's job as a U.S. Fish and Wildlife agent required many moves. They lived in Las Vegas NV, Juneau AK, Lemon Grove CA and finally settled in Huntington Beach CA in 1974. Doris enjoyed working and held many positions as a bookkeeper in banking and accounting. She volunteered as well, helping out at her son's schools, and public library's assisting English language learners. Doris enjoyed people and loved to spend leisure time playing games with family and dear friends and engaging in hobbies. She did beautiful needlework, crocheting and knitting. She joined a Needlepoint group, Point to Point, and served as treasurer. Doris was also an avid reader and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, the more challenging the better. She loved to go to the beach and metal detect. She loved the peaceful nature of walking the beach after a storm had taken a big cut out of the sand. It's amazing the items she found. So much lost change and jewelry. Some items she advertised in newspapers in hopes of finding the owners. Sometimes successfully. Doris and Gene divorced in the late 1990's, and she spent her retirement years as an independent woman, building a new life at Huntington Harbor mobile home park where Doris made many friends. She worked part time for many years at "The Book Junction" on Warner and Goldenwest where she got to meet so many people who shared her passion for books. Many told her how much they loved coming in on her workdays just to visit and find a good read. Doris is survived by her brother, Frank Blakeman (Jytte), son Jeff Wilson (Diane), son Michael Wilson (Lisa) 5 grandsons and 3 step granddaughters and 8 great grandchildren. We will be celebrating her long life at 10:30 AM on April 25, 2025. Crosspoint Church7661 Warner Ave, Huntington Beach, CA. 92647.
