It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Dorothy E. Ferguson, 86, of Cross, South Carolina, who transitioned on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital, Summerville, South Carolina. Please adhere to all COVID-19 precautions and guidelines when visiting the family and funeral home. Masks are recommended, but not required.
Dorothy E. Ferguson Life Reflections
Sis. Dorothy E. Ferguson was born to the late Rose White on March 17, 1939, in Charleston, South Carolina.
Sis. Dorothy E. Ferguson grew up in Cross, South Carolina. She received her formal education from Central High School (currently known as Cross High School) in 1957. After graduation she moved to New York and worked at Horn and Hardart Restaurant for six years.
In 1960, while in New York she met her husband the late Walter Ferguson, which was the beginning of a relationship of 57 years until his passing. This holy union was blessed with one child, Waltden Ferguson.
In 1966, Sis. Ferguson began working at Con Edison. She spent 32 years working as a customer service representative, where she was known for her dedication and leadership that contributed to many significant projects in the New York City area. After 32 years of dedicated work, she retired in 1998.
After her retirement, in 1999, the decision was made to return home to Cross, South Carolina.
Sis. Ferguson is preceded in death by her mother, husband, and a son, Leonard Moody Haskell.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her son, Waltden Ferguson of Orangeburg SC; a special nephew raised as a son, Jaquan "JJ" Gavin; three sisters, Cynthia Gavin of Ridgeville, SC, Patricia Howell of Moncks Corner, SC, and Denese Gadsden of Cross, SC; three brothers, Anthony (Mary) White of Cross, SC, Bernard (Julie Mae) White of Summerville, SC, and Curtis White of Cross, SC; daughter-in-law, Deborah (Kevin) Haskell-McCarty of Orangeburg, SC; sister-in-law, Carrie B. Taiste of Cross, SC; grandchildren, DiQuan J. Ferguson of Orangeburg, SC, Christopher I. Haskell of Columbia, SC, and April Lynn (Steven) Morrison of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren, Caleb Ferguson, Kasey Robinson, Ameah Robinson, Ryleigh Lynn Morrison, Jordan M. Haskell, and Amari C. Haskell; godson, Kenneth Johnson of New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
