Rutherfordton, North Carolina – Dorothy Mathis Hiers, 97, of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Hilltop Health and Rehab in Rutherfordton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Cobb Funeral Chapel, with the Reverend Julian Griner officiating. Interment will be at Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends and family from 5:30 until 7:00 PM, Friday, July 11, 2025, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
Casketbearers will be James Cobb, Trevor Hiers, Huey Hiers, Harold Hiers, Jim Cobb and Jack Duncan.
Born October 1, 1927, in Adel, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Brady C. Mathis and Lellie Strawder Mathis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Howard Hiers, Sr.; and siblings, Beatrice Ricks, Charles Mathis and Paul Mathis.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Hiers Cobb and husband, Jim; son, George Howard Hiers, Jr. and wife, Carol; grandchildren, Ken Keffer and wife Patricia, Derek Mauldin and wife Heather, Ashley Cobb, James Cobb and wife Kathryn, Pamela Hiers and Trevor Hiers; great-grandchildren, Gus Keffer, Tiffany Keffer, Kaeli Mauldin, Leah Mauldin, Travion Hiers and Benton Cobb; great-great-grandchildren, Riley Keffer and Keria Keffer; as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was a retired Accounting Clerk with the family business, Hiers Distributing Company, and later worked at Riverside Manufacturing. A faithful member of First Baptist Church of Moultrie, she enjoyed visiting shut-ins, loved serving others and worked in the First Baptist Church Library. She also enjoyed sewing, embroidery, crocheting, was an avid reader and was very health conscious.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to First Baptist Church of Moultrie or Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, www.hocf.org.
Cobb Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
