Dorothy Mae Lucas, 86, of Macon, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Samaritan Memorial Hospital in Macon, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was born on December 18, 1938, in College Mound, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Georgia (Teter) Lucas. Raised in a close-knit, rural community, Dorothy carried the values of hard work, kindness, and simplicity throughout her life. She dedicated many years of service at Toastmaster in Macon, where she worked until her retirement in 1997.
Outside of work, Dorothy found great joy in the beauty of nature. She had a true passion for gardening and spent countless hours nurturing her flowers and tending to her plants. Her yard was often in full bloom, a testament to her green thumb and her love for color and life. Dorothy also had a special bond with animals and found comfort and companionship in her beloved pets over the years.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her siblings: Donna (Gary) Turner of Salisbury, MO; Connie (James) Deskin of Macon, MO; Louise (Don) Eaves of Bull Head City, AZ; and Phillp Lucas of Columbia, MO. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews: Sharon Eastin, Cindy Turner-Lancial, Debbie Turner-Minor, Jason Dennis-Kulak, JoAnna Dennis, James Deskin, and Troy Deskin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Georgia Lucas; her brother, Dean Lucas; and her niece, Anita Richardson.
A private graveside service will be held at College Mound Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public visitation. The family appreciates the support and condolences from friends and loved ones during this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the College Mound Cemetery.
