Dorothy Margaret (VanPatten) Taggart, age 102 formerly of St. Francisville, passed away at Colonial Nursing Home in Vincennes on July 7, 2025. She was born July 20, 1922, in Hastings, MI to Clarence and Elma (Neeb) VanPatten.
On September 27, 1946, she married the love of her life, Howard Wayne Taggart. They lived, laughed, loved, and raised a family for over 58 years until his passing in December of 2004.
Dorothy graduated from Kalamazoo High School in Michigan and continued her education becoming a nurse. She lived her life as a devoted Christian all her life. She volunteered at the Knox County Library, St. Francisville Christian Academy, and was a member of the St. Francisville Women's Club.
She served her country in the Army Nurse Corps (ANC) during WWII. She later worked as a nurse in Hastings, MI and at several local facilities.
Those left to carry on her love include: two children- Linda Buchanan and husband Ed of St. Francisville and Joe Taggart of St. Francisville; "Our Chosen" family- John and Shirley Jones of Robinson and their sons, JP and Tanner Wayne and his wife Jasmine, and their children Lailah, Tarek Wayne, and Darius.
Dorothy was preceded in death by: her parents- Clarence and Elma VanPatten; her husband- Howard Wayne Taggart; and one daughter- Holly Taggart.
There will be private services held for Dorothy. Cunningham Funeral Home is assisting the family during their time of loss.
