DOROTHY J. "TOPPY" WETHERELL, 97, of Peterson, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Peterson, Iowa. Pastor Tyler Thomsen will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery at Peterson, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church in Peterson on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. The Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Toppy's honor to the Peterson CRU.
Toppy was born on September 20, 1927 to Ambrose and Elizabeth (Flugel) Heinis at Marcus, Iowa. Toppy was united in marriage to Roy (Andy) Wetherell on June 2, 1944 at Peterson, Iowa.
She stayed at home with their two boys, Ronald and Mick, raising, picking, and processing chickens. They purchased the Peterson Farm in 1971. On the farm, the grandkids had fun riding her Snapper mower and getting tractor rides from Grandpa. They farmed by Marcus and Peterson before moving to town in Peterson after retiring.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Peterson and the Red Hat Society.
In her free time, she loved spending time with family and hosting the holiday meals, having coffee with friends, and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy (Andy) Wetherell, siblings, Myrtle (John) Dawson, Helen (Orville) Smith, Pearl (Otto) Frangenberg, Edy (Merle) Sand, June (Dale) Davis, Ralph (Margaret) Heinis, and Lyle (Vivian) Heinis, daughter-in-law Sandy Wetherell, and great-great grandchildren Faith Hill and Parker Wetherell, mother-in-law and father-in-law Mae and Merle Wetherell, sister-in-law Pat Mason, brothers-in-law Ray Wetherell and Robert (Mariana) Wetherell.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Ronald Wetherell (special friend Carol Leidahl) of Cleghorn, Iowa, Mick (Alice) Wetherell of Cleghorn, Iowa; grandchildren Todd (Pam) Wetherell of Cleghorn, Iowa, Lisa (Boyd) White of Cherokee, Iowa, Wendi (Allen) Zent of Rapid City South Dakota, and BJ (Erica) Wetherell of Clarksville, Tennessee; great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, Stephanie (Kevin) Hill and their children Brayan, Sami, and Lily, Steven (Kristin) Wetherell and their children Hudson, Hazel, and Henley, Michael (Callie) Wetherell and their son Cooper, Ryan (Briana) White, Tyler (Liz) White and their children Harper and Bennett, Mason, Corbin, Elyce, Eliana, and Dawson Zent, and Andrew, Asher, and Grace Wetherell; sister-in-law Wilda Wetherell of Peterson, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews.
