In Loving Memory of Douglas F. Best

July 15, 1932 – July 10, 2025

Douglas F. Best, a devoted husband, proud veteran, loving father and grandfather, and lifelong resident of North and South Twin Lakes, passed away suddenly on July 10, 2025, just five days shy of his 93rd birthday.

Born on July 15, 1932, Doug lived a life marked by integrity, hard work, and unwavering love for his family. He served his country with pride in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and carried the values of service, discipline, and humility with him throughout his life. After returning home, Doug built a successful 50-year career in sales, earning the admiration of colleagues and clients through his dedication and genuine kindness.

Doug was the beloved husband of Margaret Best, his wife of 72 years, and his partner in life, laughter, and even sports rivalries. A passionate Chicago Bears and Cubs fan, Doug never missed a game-and never missed a chance to remind Margaret of his lifelong disdain for her beloved Packers and Brewers. Their playful banter was a reflection of a deep and enduring love that stood the test of time.

Known for "putzing around," Doug was always working on something-whether fixing, building, or tinkering. He was a big dog lover, a great storyteller, and like an encyclopedia of fun facts. An avid bird watcher, Doug found joy in the simple wonders of nature that surrounded his beloved lakes.

Doug was preceded in death by his son Paul, daughter Pam, his parents Margaret and Douglas, and his sister Mariam. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret; his son Doug III; daughter Chris (Al); and his cherished grandchildren: Corey, Catey, Alex, Alissa, Ben, Clay, Emily, Hannah, and Maggie.

Doug's sudden passing is a profound loss to all who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, warmth, and devotion-a life well lived and deeply appreciated.

He will be forever missed and lovingly remembered-for his steady presence, quiet humor, and the deep love he shared with those fortunate enough to be part of his remarkable life.
